The Man Who Planted Trees
House:Ed 2010

Recommended for Years 2 - 6

Scotland’s Puppet State Theatre Company makes its Australian debut with a captivating adaptation of Jean Giono’s classic environmental tale of a thoughtful shepherd who plants a forest acorn by acorn, transforming a barren wasteland. As the years pass, their fledging forest must endure two World Wars and unscrupulous developers to flourish.

‘Laughs, heartbreak, war, regeneration, scented breezes, sparkling wit, the best dog puppet ever. Terrific.’  The Guardian, UK

‘Lovely adaptation of Jean Giono’s environmental fable.’  Time Out London

A charming combination of comedy and puppetry, this timely production incorporates the sensory effects of wind, mist and forest scents. Exploring the themes of war, conservation and sustainability, The Man Who Planted Trees is an unforgettable tale that shows us the difference one man (and his dog!) can make.

Eco Prize for Creativity, 2007 • Total Theatre Award for Story Theatre, 2008
Victor Award, International Performing Arts for Youth showcase USA, 2009
