“version 1.0 goes the extra mile: it entertains, informs and then contributes to the betterment of our democracy.” Sun Herald
(Unlocking) The Tender Age is a unique opportunity for drama students and teachers to gain insight into the process of devising theatre with two of Australia’s leading performing arts companies.
Drawing upon media reports and verbatim interviews juxtaposed with visceral physical performance, The Tender Age examines the way society educates young people about sexuality, and how they negotiate relationships in a social media-saturated world. The work has been devised by version 1.0 and Australian Theatre for Young People, and is performed with an ensemble of professional artists and young performers.
The session is broken into three parts. Following an introduction to the creative development, students will watch and respond to the work. Post-show, there will be an interactive forum for examination and discussion of student responses. To develop a deeper understanding of verbatim theatre, a facilitator, will then offer opportunities for participation in practical activities such as improvisation and scene work, which help demonstrate the creative process.
This exclusive season has been especially developed to offer a window into the theatremaking process with real opportunity for students to influence the direction of this significant new Australian work due to premiere in late 2012.
