OVERVIEW

ITEC is a NSWIT Accredited Professional Development conference. Sydney Opera House is a NSW Institute of Teachers’ endorsed provider of Institute Registered professional development for the maintenance of accreditation at levels of Proficient Teacher/Professional Competence.

Hosted by Sydney Opera House in partnership with Australia’s Academic and Research Network (AARNet), ITEC 2014 will feature national and international educators, innovators, researchers and industry leaders in the field of interactive and real-time technologies and techniques. Presentations will focus on technologies and programs that facilitate the delivery of rich content and the sharing of expertise and experiences across the network and directly into places of learning.

The term ‘Interactive Technology’ is inclusive of a range of content, collaboration and remote instrumentation platforms such as Telepresence, High Definition Video Conferencing, Remote Labs, Augmented Reality, Robotics, Software Services and Tactile Toolsets. These technologies are evolving rapidly and their innovative application in the learning context provides new and adventurous, real world avenues for discovery, exploration and collective knowledge construction.

This conference provides an opportunity for cultural institutions, libraries, museums, galleries technology partners, policy makers and educational practitioners to come together to listen, talk and learn in a national forum.

THIS CONFERENCE IS OF INTEREST TO:

Content Providers, Museums, Galleries, Libraries and Cultural Institutions.

ITEC 2014 is an excellent opportunity to hear from both national and international communities about interactive program design, implementation, assessment, best practices and classroom engagement.

Schools, Teachers, and Classroom Practitioners.

Learn about interactive curriculum resources from the content experts, how you can access them for your students and enriched learning opportunities that are student led. Day 2 of the program is targeted at classroom practitioners and will provide strategies and resources for the classroom alongside an opportunity to hear from other teachers about their classroom experiences.

Higher Education.

Outreach is an excellent opportunity to reach future students and let them know what your University can offer. The top six Universities in the world offer education outreach to K-12 via rich interactive collaboration services. This is a great conference for your Teaching and Learning faculty to learn more.

Title: Performing arts over advanced research and education networking:  A story of the unexpected.

‘An inventive group of performing arts faculty took a set of technologies and taught a music lesson. The professor was remotely located in the rural Mid-west and the student was located two thousand kilometres away. This presentation captures the significance of this unexpected innovation, showcases its global adoption, and highlights current opportunities and best practices.’

Ann Doyle directs Internet2's global and cultural programs, fostering partnerships between Internet2 member campuses and global partners with a unique area of expertise at the intersection of performing arts and advanced networking.   Ann founded Internet2's Arts & Humanities Initiatives working with arts organization across the U.S. and eventually the world to enable collaborative live performances, master classes, and remote auditions.

Ann has a humanities undergraduate degree and a master's degree in higher education administration from the University of Michigan and is known in the greater Detroit area for her career as a singer-songwriter.

Title: The Nautilus Exploration Program: real-time participation in ocean exploration

‘Our exploration connects the next generation of explorers, scientists, engineers and educators with inspirational STEM role models, cutting-edge research, award-winning in and out-of-school curricula and real science and exploration.’

Lloyd Godson is an ambassador for ocean exploration committed to encouraging more young Australians to undertake STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) studies and careers. He loves to live his wild ideas by putting them to the test in the real world, sharing the excitement of exploration and adventure with students and public audiences around the world.

Most recently, Lloyd has been selected to participate in the Nautilus Exploration Program as an Ocean Exploration Trust Science Communication Fellow (SCF). The SCF Program immerses formal and informal educators in the Nautilus Corps of Exploration and empowers them to bring ocean exploration to a global audience via the Nautilus Live website. Fellows share accounts of ocean science, expedition operations and daily life with audiences through live audio commentary and question-and-answer sessions from aboard Exploration Vessel (E/V) Nautilus.

From July 27th to August 16th 2014, Lloyd will participate in an expedition to the Mesoamerican Reef. Through live interactions with student groups and public audiences, he'll engage people of all ages in real-time ocean exploration.

Title: Visual Global Collaboration: How it has changed the way we teach

Rob Sparks (Skyview High School) and Greg Zorbas (Kenai Central High School) have each been in education for over 20 years. Alongside Gregory Weissenberg (then Soldotna High School) the pair created a concept they call Classroom Without Walls.
