Description
Olli Mustonen – A Bach Reinvention
He gives his whole body to the performance, every time…He gives his soul too. The Sunday Times
The Goldberg Variations are a towering landmark in the history of music.
Bach writes a simple, exquisite aria for keyboard, then takes its bass line and creates thirty variations, each one more intricate and fascinating to create an almost encyclopaedic account of the baroque sound world.
Many pianists have assayed this work, from the legendary Glenn Gould to his compatriot Angela Hewitt. Now one of the classical world’s most beautiful minds takes the challenge.
Finnish pianist, composer, conductor and thinker extraordinaire, Olli Mustonen, is a unique artist. His recording credits include all of Bach and Shostakovich’s Preludes and Fugues. He plays the piano with the insight of a composer, he composes music with the instincts of a performer and he conducts using an entire orchestra to communicate his vision. Above all, this all-encompassing musician never fails to challenge audiences’ expectations with his intense, questing approach to music-making.
Now Olli Mustonen invites you to join him in an exploration of the musical labyrinth of Bach’s Goldberg Variations.
