The most beautiful music from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Ballet  transcribed for two violins. Featuring Esmeralda Tintner and Lisa Stewart, violins, Kerryn Joyce, percussion and Lu Liu on Pipa (Chinese Lute) as 'Tea'.

'Play me a Story...The Nutcracker' combines exquisite violin playing, storytelling, illustrations and ballet to tell the much loved story of a tender hearted little girl, Marie, and her favourite toy, a wooden Nutcracker carved to look like a soldier. Nobody else wanted such a funny looking toy, but Marie loves her Nutcracker doll with all her heart, all the more so since nobody else seems to care about him...

Christmas Eve is a time when magic can happen - but the most magical thing of all, is love...

'Play me a Story...The Nutcracker' is full of all the things that children love - magic, dancing, delicious food...and above all the beautiful music...

Artist Information

Esmeralda Tintner  -  Creator Artist  -

Esmeralda Tintner grew up surrounded by the inspirational music making of her exceptional musical family. Her Father was the Conductor Georg Tintner. She trained at the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatoire in St. Petersburg in Russia under Antonina Maksimovna Kazarina. Esmeralda has worked with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Philharmonia. She also teaches for the Suzuki Association.

Lisa Stewart 
 -  Violinist  -  Illustrations

Lisa Stewart is recognised as one of Australia's most accomplished and charismatic violinists. She has recorded as a soloist for the Klavins and Naxos labels. Ensembles and Orchestras Lisa has worked with include the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Concerto Köln, Gurzenich Orchester Köln, Ensemble Fünf, WDR Sinfonieorchester, Orquesta Ciudad de Granada and the Beethoven Orchester Bonn. Lisa was Guest Concertmaster of the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Bernard Haitink.

When the Vienna Philharmonic made the historic decision to accept women, Lisa was one of the first invited to apply.
Lisa is a founding member of the Acacia String Quartet.

She is also an established illustrator - her children's picture books are published by Scholastic and Random House. 

LuLu Liu
  -  Pipa

Sydney based LuLu Liu is an internationally recognised virtuoso of the Pipa, or Chinese Lute. LuLu has performed extensively in China, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia. Career highlights include performing for an audience of  7000 at the World Peace Outdoor Festival in South Korea, and featuring on the long-running BBC radio programme, 'On the Wire'.

LuLu's Pipa also featured on the acclaimed soundtrack for the film 'Mao's Last Dancer'.

Kerryn Joyce
  -  Percussion   

Kerryn Joyce has been a member of the innovative Australian Taiko Drumming ensemble 'Taikoz' since 2001. She has collaborated with such esteemed artists as Kodo, Meryl Tankard and John Bell. Kerryn has taught at the Queensland Conservatorium and performed with the Queensland Ballet. She performs regularly with Musica Viva and records for the ABC. As a composer, Kerryn is published by Rhythmscape. 

Lennox Niven
– Dancer and Choreographer

Lennox was born in Sydney and trained in ballet at the Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy and The Australian Ballet School where he received a Diploma of Dance. Lennox has danced for The Australian Ballet’s 50th Anniversary Gala in Tim Harbour’s Sweedeedee, and with The Dancers Company in 2014. He has also performed as ‘Moth’ with Opera Australia in Baz Luhrman’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Lennox is a Level 7 student of The Australian Ballet School.
