The drama. The passion. The heart-stopping virtuosity.
For more than a decade, Sara Baras has been hailed as one of Spain’s greatest flamenco exports. Displaying the technical brilliance of traditional flamenco with a vibrant, contemporary edge, Baras and her company of 19 dancers and musicians set the stage alight.
Sydney Opera House proudly presents Sara Baras Ballet Flamenco in its first and only Australian performances, direct from a sell-out London season at Sadler’s Wells.
Adored in Spain as a style icon and recipient of the country’s most prestigious dance award, Baras made flamenco box office history with a record-breaking five-month run in Madrid.
"The unmistakable stamp of a flamenco superstar"
Daily Telegraph, UK
Her acclaimed new show Sabores (flavours) leads the audience on a journey through the many varied palos, or styles, of flamenco, culminating in a fiery free-style finale. Featuring sensual costumes of elegant simplicity and dramatic lighting, the focus is always on the dance.
Sara Baras appears to almost levitate above the stage with her lightning footwork, yet always maintains a mesmerising gracefulness and a deep, emotional connection with the audience.
A precision-drilled troupe of male and female dancers provide smouldering company for Baras, including special guest dancers José Serrano and Luis Ortega. Performing original music by Jose Maria Bandera, an ensemble of musicians and singers accompany the dancers on stage.
The overall effect is an intoxicating performance which pulses with the rhythm and spirit of Spain.

Reviews
“Sara Baras is part of the saga of great flamenco dancers.” El Mundo, Spain
“The dancing of Sara Baras is elegant and expressive. She masterfully combines the solemn and powerful plasticity of flamenco with the stylisation of modern dance movement.” El País, Spain
“Watching her one has the sensation of witnessing something unique; of being before an artist who possesses all the qualities of the very few bailaoras who share the Olympus of flamenco in the present day, but with yet another invaluable treasure in her favour: her youth…Elegant, agile, harmonious, with both fire and control in her feet, the dancer offered a masterful example of flamenco dance.” El Periódico de Catalunya, Spain
“Sara Baras is the most sensational discovery in female dance since Cristina Hoyos and Manuela Vargas. Her flamenco is different, with marble-carved back, arms and hands. Her dance is sculptural, magnificent; her footwork is of a virtuosity that is rarely reached by female dancers.” Le Figaro, Spain
“Fiery and precise, she came as close as any dancer to looking like Amaya.” Boston Sunday Globe, USA
“Few flamenco dancers have become such a star.” Los Angeles Times
“Sara Baras has attitude. Her frame, though diminutive, seems to fill the entire stage. The sultry bailaora possesses the ability to gaze into the audience with a knowing glance, eyes burning, before extending her arm to blow a kiss.” The Independent, UK
