Description

After a gap year away from our traditional Christmas performances of Messiah, we return to Handel’s masterpiece with a stellar line-up of soloists joining our Symphony Chorus and Massed Choirs.

After a gap year away from our traditional Christmas performances of Messiah, we return to Handel’s masterpiece with a stellar line-up of soloists joining our Symphony Chorus and Massed Choirs.

But in 2013 there’s a difference: we’re reviving this great oratorio’s 18th century association with charitable support.

The premiere of Messiah, in Dublin, was given in aid of several charities, including the Mercer’s Hospital and the Charitable Infirmary on the Inns Quay. Back in Handel’s adopted city, performances benefiting London’s Foundling Hospital for children became an annual institution.

So we’re delighted that our performances of Messiah in 2013 will be presented in association with The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. In a return to tradition, proceeds from the concerts will be shared with the hospital, and volunteers will be at all performances to collect donations.

If you’re new to Messiah, come and experience it in the spirit of its first performances. If you know it well, come hear our line-up of great soloists. You’ll not only be enjoying a thrilling performance at a joyous time of year, but be helping a very worthy cause at the same time.
