Brahms's majestic Fourth Symphony and Dvořák's cello concerto - an audience favourite featuring one of the great cellists of our time.

Description

The warm, deep, comforting resonance of the cello, the soulful melodies that sing of an unattainable lover, its rich Slavic expressiveness – Dvořák’s Cello Concerto is a true classical favourite. Brahms – friend and admirer – called it ‘a great and excellent work’ and his impassioned Fourth Symphony makes the perfect pair.

Brahms helped Dvořák to his first big break: the publication of his Slavonic Dances made his name at home and abroad. Dvořák returned the favour with his own orchestral version of the Brahms dances that inspired him.

Having set the scene with a musical friendship, conductor Jakub Hrůša offers two unquestioned masterpieces of the repertoire. One is Brahms's Fourth Symphony with its majestic finale. The other is Dvořák's groundbreaking cello concerto, played by one of the finest cellists of our time.
