Your 21st-century cares will melt away with this charming, elegant and congenial music of the 18th century. Haydn shares the spotlight amongst four leading musicians from the orchestra. In that spirit of sharing, enjoy this concert in the company of friends.

Andrew Haveron, who joined the orchestra as co-concertmaster in 2013, makes his SSO directing and solo debut in this program of Mozart and Haydn.

The centrepiece is Haydn's Sinfonia concertante - a concerto for violin, oboe, bassoon and cello. It's the work of a mature composer and every note is perfectly judged to show off the four soloists. Mozart provides the contrast with symphonies from his youth: straightforward, exuberant and calculated to please. Even at 12, he knew what his audience would like. And we think you'll like these symphonies too!

MOZART  Symphony No.27, K199
HAYDN  Sinfonia concertante, Hob.I:105
