By all accounts, Finland has classical music all wrapped up. More orchestras per head of population than any other country, conductors making their names all over the world, and a raft of composers who are defining a contemporary style that speaks to modern ears. You can hear it for yourself in Kalevi Aho's new Percussion Concerto, composed for Colin Currie. This is music that 'brims with flair, groove and colour', says Currie.

Beethoven and Brahms provide the musical frame. High drama and a tragic hero to begin the concert and, after interval, Brahms's First Symphony - as bold and attention-grabbing in his day as Aho is in ours.

BEETHOVEN  Egmont: Overture
AHO Siedi  - Percussion Concerto [AP]
