Sydney Opera House is delighted to announce a special one-off performance in the Studio by “America’s favorite mezzo” (Gramophone) Susan Graham and her longtime collaborator, pianist Malcolm Martineau.
From song recitals to title roles on the world’s great opera stages, Graham is a versatile singer universally loved for her expressive tone and heartfelt performances.
In keeping with the Utzon Music Series’ tradition of intimate recitals by the world’s greatest classical artists, this special performance in the Studio promises to be a highlight of the 2012 season.
Coming off her phenomenal success in the title role of Xerxes at San Francisco Opera, Susan Graham will present a thematic program inspired by iconic female characters of history, literature, and song including Shakespeare’s Ophelia and Lady Macbeth and Goethe’s Mignon.
Internationally respected for her performances of French music, her Sydney debut will include songs by Berlioz and Duparc as well as Purcell, Liszt, Tchaikovsky and masters of the German tradition - Schubert, Schumann and Wolf.
