Mozart meets The White Stripes in a bill that blends classical and contemporary

Mozart meets The White Stripes, classical meets contemporary

Wayne McGregor, resident choreographer of The Royal Ballet, is taking the classical style in electrifying directions. The Australian premiere Chroma is chock-full of his signature energy and attack. In a minimalist set by architect John Pawson, and to Joby Talbot’s dramatic, cinematic score – including his arrangement of music by alt-rockers The White Stripes – the dancers explore and explode the boundaries of ballet. This fresh work shares the bill with Jiří Kylián’s “Mozart double”, Petite Mort and Sechs Tänze. Featuring Kylián’s inventive use of props (fencing foils, an apple, black Baroque ball gowns with minds of their own!), these highly musical works are both witty and profound. Rounding out the program will be a new work from The Australian Ballet's Resident Choreographer Stephen Baynes, the first since his triumphant sell-out production of Swan Lake. This fascinating triple bill by three very different choreographers will showcase ballet in all its facets.

“[Chroma] gets more exciting, absorbing and downright dazzling every time you see it”
The Telegraph (London)
