Nicola Benedetti is one of the most sought after violinists of
her generation. Her ability to captivate audiences with her  innate musicianship and dynamic presence, coupled with her  wide appeal as a high profile advocate for classical music, has  made her one of the most influential classical artists of today.

She is a violinist of 'unassuming virtuosity', and equally at
home playing warhorse concertos as she is making chamber  music. In this recital with her frequent collaborator Alexei  Grynyuk, Benedetti gives a panoramic view of the violin  sonata from Mozart's example to the heartfelt ardour of Elgar  and Prokofiev's brooding and angular first sonata. Elgar's  sonata in particular makes an apt showcase for Benedetti's  skills. It is centred on a slow movement of surpassing  loveliness - as flirtatiousness gives way to an earnest  outpouring of melody sudden depths of emotion are revealed.  It is a work that like Benedetti radiates warmth and joy.

Repertoire:
MOZART Violin sonata No.21 in
E minor
PROKOFIEV Violin sonata in
F minor, Op.80
ELGAR Violin sonata in E minor,
Op.82

From Yarmila (Utzon Music Series Curator)

If Alisa is a musician's musician, then Nicola is a people's musician. Through her dramatic and energetic performances she brings to life the sheer beauty of music, and I was swept away by her performance of Bruch at the 2012 Last Night of the Proms. No wonder this girl wins competitions! Her commitment to developing young musicians through her own program called The Benedetti Sessions only makes me love her more, and I know she will inspire many more people when she is in Sydney next year.
