Fei coaxes a rainbow of sounds from her gorgeous guitar

Born following the Cultural Revolution, an era where Western
music & instruments were banned, the fascinating story of Fei's rise to the world stage is that of a musical pioneer.

Born following the Cultural Revolution, an era where Western
music & instruments were banned, the fascinating story of Fei's  rise to the world stage is that of a musical pioneer.

She was the first ever guitarist in China to enter a music
school, and became the first to launch an international   professional career. Her prodigious talent came to the attention  of John Williams who donated two of his own guitars to her  conservatorium. Since then, she has been impressing audiences  around the world with her exquisite sound and powerfully  emotional performances of repertoire both old and new.

The classical guitar was born in Spain, and is still synonymous
with Latin passions. However, the variety of colours that can  be coaxed from the instrument and its expressive capabilities  mean it can play just about anything beautifully, especially  in Fei's hands. She'll survey music from Bach's monumental  D-minor chaconne to folksongs from today's China, by way of  some of Shubert's loveliest melodies.

From Yarmila (Utzon Music Series Curator)

So much serious classical guitar repertoire is complex and difficult, but when Xuefei performs with her customary clarity and precision the structure becomes evident and the music soars. She is quiet and understated, but without a doubt one of the best guitarist on the international circuit today. I am excited that Xuefei leads a new generation of brilliant musicians coming out of China who I can't wait to get to know.
