Contemporary ballet at its spectacular best, with landmark works from George Balanchine, Jirí Kylián and Wayne McGregor.
Key works from ballet’s game-changers: Balanchine, Kylián, McGregor
Each of the choreographers on this stirring triple bill has left their distinctive mark on classical dance. George Balanchine, one of the 20th century’s most influential artists, uses the Ancient Greek notion of “temperaments” that rule the human body to shape a work of stark geometries and distinct moods. Jiřί Kylián brings his customary insight and invention to Bella Figura, featuring his stunningly theatrical, swirling flame-red skirts. And Wayne McGregor, resident choreographer of The Royal Ballet, tests the very limits of movement in the laboratory-white set of Dyad 1929. Vanguard is contemporary ballet at its spectacular best.
