Description

Celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of Violent Femmes (1983), American three-piece and acoustic punk innovators Violent Femmes return to their adopted home with founding members Gordon Gano (singer-songwriter, guitar) and Brian Ritchie (bass), and new member Brian Viglione (drums), to perform the lauded self-titled debut album in its entirety plus tracks from their critically acclaimed sophomore LP Hallowed Ground (1984) – for a year-end Opera House debut of classic pogo-friendly pop and rite-of-passage rock 'n' roll.

Formed in 1981 to 'rock harder than any other acoustic act on the planet', the Femmes' mythical rise from fresh grad buskers saw them handpicked off the street by none other than The Pretenders to producing their coming-of-age self-titled classic – fervently rallied as one of the greatest debuts of all time with over nine million copies sold. Creating a lineage of classic riffs in league with 'Smoke on the Water, 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and 'You Really Got Me', the Wisconsin-born trio's minimal mix of 10 steel strings and a snare drum have produced teen-defining hits such as 'Blister in the Sun', 'Kiss Off', 'Add It Up' and 'Gone Daddy Gone'. Fabled as a sneerier, post-pubescent Catcher in the Rye with a rabid, age-defying following, the Femmes have drawn fans from The Smiths and the Pixies to Lou Reed and the Dresden Dolls, ensnaring Dolls drummer Brian Viglione in the process whilst Amanda Palmer declared that 'we were raised on their music'.

Ecstatically embraced by the nation as bassist Brian Ritchie performs with members of Midnight Oil, the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Rodriguez through the years, singer-songwriter Gordan Gano will lead the legendary Femmes once again in a roaring Concert Hall debut of pop, punk and pure rock 'n' roll glory.
