Auslan Interpreted Performance
Experienced Auslan theatre interpreters stand to the side of the stage and translate what the actors are saying or singing into Auslan. A block of seats is reserved for users of this service to ensure a good view of the interpreter and the stage. Book now
Captioned Performance
Captions are text that display the spoken word and other relevant sounds from the talk that are otherwise inaccessible to people who are Deaf or have hearing loss. These will appear on a screen on stage or you can scan the QR Code on signs at entry to venue to see the captions on your personal device (mobile phone).

All about the speakers
Emily Maitlis (she/her)
Award-winning journalist and broadcaster Emily Maitlis was recognised by GQ Magazine as one of the most influential people in Britain. She presents the Gold Award–winning daily podcast The News Agents with Global Media, as well as the weekly The News Agents USA.
In 2025, she and the team take The News Agents Live on the road, kicking off at the Royal Albert Hall before touring Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.
Emily fronted Channel 4’s 2024 General Election special, widely acknowledged as the most enjoyable and critically acclaimed coverage of the night. She also anchored Channel 4’s US election coverage from Washington—their first in 32 years.
Amy Wallace (she/her)
Journalist and author Amy Wallace is the co-author of several significant books, most notably Virginia Giuffre's memoir, Nobody's Girl (2025), published just months after Giuffre’s death. She also collaborated on the New York Times bestseller Creativity, Inc. with Ed Catmull and Hot Seat with former GE CEO Jeff Immelt.
Her work has appeared in GQ, Wired, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Esquire and The New York Times Magazine, among others. Two of her profiles have been nominated for National Magazine Awards.
Wallace began her career at the New York Times and spent 11 years at the Los Angeles Times, where she covered politics, education and entertainment and shared in two staff-wide Pulitzer Prizes. She has also been a correspondent at GQ, editor-at-large at Los Angeles magazine and a columnist for The New York Times Sunday Business section.
Louise Milligan (she/her)
Moderator
Louise Milligan is a multi-award-winning investigative journalist for ABC TV's Four Corners, the Australian national broadcaster's flagship current affairs documentary program. Her first novel, Pheasants Nest, was published in 2024 to wide acclaim and was shortlisted for the Best Debut Fiction Indie Book Awards and the Best Crime Fiction Danger Awards. She is also the author of two bestselling non-fiction books, Cardinal: The Rise and Fall of George Pell and Witness: An Investigation into the Brutal Cost of Seeking Justice. Shellybanks is her second novel.
Her books have received multiple honours including the Walkley Book Award, the Davitt Awards Best Non-Fiction Crime Book, the Melbourne Prize for Literature People's Choice Award, the Victorian Premier's Literary Award People's Choice prize, the Sir Owen Dixon Chambers Law Reporter of the Year Award, a Press Freedom Medal and a shortlisting for the Stella Prize. Her journalism, particularly her coverage of historical institutional child abuse and the experience of women in the criminal justice system and parliament, has broken national and international news, sparked government inquiries and led to profound cultural change and law reform.
Milligan began her career in newspapers and is a former High Court correspondent and political reporter. Born in Ireland to an Irish mother and Scottish father, she moved to Australia as a child. She lives in Melbourne with her husband and two children.

Our foyers will be open 90 minutes pre-show for Concert Hall and Joan Sutherland Theatre performances, and two hours pre-show for Western Foyer venue performances. Refreshments will be available for purchase from our theatre bars.
All Sydney Opera House foyers are pram accessible, with lifts to the main and western foyers. The public lift to all foyers is accessible from the corridor near the escalators on the Lower Concourse and also in the Western Foyer via the corridor on the Ground Level (at the top of the escalators). Pram parking will be available outside the theatres in the Western Foyer.
Getting here
The Sydney Opera House Car Park, operated by Wilson Parking, is open and available to use. Wilson Parking offer discounted parking if you book ahead. Please see the Wilson Parking website for details.
Please check the Transport NSW website for the latest advice and information on travel. You can catch public transport (bus, train, ferry) to Circular Quay and enjoy a 7-10 minute walk to the Opera House.
Frequently asked questions
Ticket purchases and collection at our Box Office is discouraged and eTicket or postal delivery methods should be used, wherever possible. However, if you are collecting your tickets from the Box Office, we recommend doing this at least 60 minutes before the event starts. If you have already received your tickets, the venue doors will be open 45 minutes pre-show for Joan Sutherland Theatre performances, and 30 minutes pre-show for Western Foyer venue performances. Please take your seats as soon as you arrive.
If you are late, we will seat you as soon as we can and, where possible, in your allocated seat. However, to reduce movement in the venue as well as minimise disruption to the performance and other patrons, ticketholders may be seated in an allocated latecomer’s seat. Please be aware that some events have lock-out periods. In these cases, latecomers will be admitted at a suitable break in the performance. On occasions, this may not be until the interval, or at all where there is no interval.

In accordance with our venue security procedures, Opera House security will be scanning and checking bags under the Monumental Stairs, prior to entering the building. Bags will be scanned by an x-ray machine, and staff will wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling your belongings, such as gloves. Cloaking facilities will be open 60 minutes pre-show for Concert Hall and Joan Sutherland Theatre performances, and 60 minutes pre-show for Western Foyer venue performances. However it is strongly encouraged that you travel lightly to minimise contact and queuing. Any bags larger than an A4 piece of paper will need to be checked into the Cloak Room.

Concert Hall
The Concert Hall is located beneath the largest of Sydney Opera House’s roof sails, filling the upper levels of the west side of the building. Best accessed through the covered concourse.
