Keeping It Modern

How the Getty Foundation is helping preserve the Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is the foremost example of the use of concrete in 20th century architecture. Its iconic shells pioneered the use of reinforced and post tensioned concrete as a prominent architectural feature.

In 2014, Sydney Opera House was awarded one of the first of 10 grants under the Getty Foundation’s Keeping It Modern initiative, which was established to support the conservation of 20th Century architecture. This video explores how the Getty grant is enabling the Opera House to study and better preserve the building.
