Sydney – Thursday 18 May, 2017. Sydney outfit The Preatures will unveil new music from their forthcoming album in a special one-off event on 1 June at Vivid LIVE, as part of Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas.
This year’s exclusive performance delivers on a promise The Preatures made to audiences at their sold out Vivid LIVE appearance in 2015 that they were “just getting started”, and marks the first time the internationally-acclaimed Sydney rockers take to a festival stage as a four-piece.
Since forming in 2010, The Preatures have cemented their legacy and longstanding contribution to the Australian music scene, delighting fans across the globe with their explosive live shows and on-stage chemistry.
“The last Vivid LIVE we did was a huge experience for us,” says Preatures singer Isabella “Izzi” Manfredi. “To get the chance to play our new record for the first time at the Opera House this year is just the greatest. I can't wait.”
‘Girlhood’, the infectious new single premiered earlier today on Triple J, is a call-to-arms urging young women everywhere to become the protagonists in their own story. “Give me heroism, give me what is mine,” Manfredi demands with the sort of knowing nonchalance you might expect from her own heroines, Chrissie Hynde or Chrissy Amphlett.
The Preatures catapulted to instant fame with their breakthrough single ‘Is This How You Feel?’, which landed at #9 in Triple J’s Hottest 100 in 2013. Following the release of their Top 5 Aria chart-topping album Blue Planet Eyes, The Preatures have been working on their highly anticipated second album, recorded locally and produced by Jack Moffitt at Doldrums, their Sydney studio. Grammy nominated mixing engineer Bob Clearmountain (working previously with The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, INXS) mixed the album.
Ben Marshall, Curator of Vivid LIVE said: "In 2011 we sprang an intimate surprise Vivid LIVE performance by the mesmerising Bat For Lashes and this year it’s The Preatures’ turn. They absolutely owned the hometown stage here in 2015 and it’s going to be phenomenal to see them playing brand new music in the intimate Drama Theatre, opened to contemporary music for the first time this Vivid LIVE. The Preatures’ raw talent and Izzi’s magnetic presence put them in the top draw of internationalist Australian talent we exist to champion. From the Necks to Nick Murphy, Camp Cope to Total Control, Nai Palm to the Avalanches and Severed Heads - we’re proud to present uncompromising, compelling artists whose ambition and excellence is internationally recognised and celebrated."
Joining frontwoman Manfredi is guitarist and producer Jack Moffitt, carried by the rhythm section of Thomas Champion on bass and drummer Luke Davison.
