Sydney – Wednesday 12 April, 2017. Celebrating 30 years at the cutting edge of jazz and experimental music, Sydney's own masters of improvisation The Necks will present a second Drama Theatre performance on Sunday 4 June 2017 for Vivid LIVE, as part of Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas.
After being the onstage engine of Brian Eno’s Pure Scenius improvised concerts at the first Vivid LIVE in 2009 alongside Underworld’s Karl Hyde, Jon Hopkins and Leo Abrahams, The Necks return to headline their own Vivid LIVE performances.
Following their recent national tour with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, this year marks the 30th anniversary of The Necks in which the band have mastered the act of improvisation, each taking turns leading and following each other’s musical ideas to create truly unique pieces of sonic tapestry both in the recording studio and live on stage.
The trio of Chris Abrahams (piano), Lloyd Swanton (double bass) and Tony Buck (drums) are globally renowned for their unique approach to creating spontaneous music. On the back of the release of Unfold, the genre-defying band recently embarked on a US tour performing to sold out shows in San Francisco, LA, New York, Philadelphia, playing to rapturous audiences.
After delivering a trilogy of albums for their own Fish Of Milk label, The Necks released their new long form LP and four track album Unfold on Ideologic Organ in February 2017.
