ACO StudioCasts Collection
Transform your living room into a concert hall with this collection of four films from the Australian Chamber Orchestra – the orchestra that pushes the limits of performance into new and exciting realms. Available to rent as a four-film collection on Stream, the ACO’s StudioCasts series has been created to enhance the performance experience through stunning cinematography and sound.
Filmed live in the magnificent, expansive surrounds of Sydney Town Hall’s Centennial Hall by director Matisse Ruby, Rapture & Revolution features Australian Chamber Orchestra maestro Richard Tognetti as he leads his musicians through Vaughan Williams’ rapturous 'The Lark Ascending', alongside selections from Beethoven’s moving 'Cavatina' and the revolutionary 'Grosse Fuge'.
Anguish, redemption and the great beyond mix in Bach and the Beyond, which sets the timeless music of Bach alongside evocative new compositions from Richard Tognetti. Guest flautist Emmanuel Pahud electrifies the turbulent fugue from Bach’s 'The Musical Offering', ACO cellist Timo-Veikko Valve delivers an evocative solo in 'St Matthew Passion', and Satu Vänskä’s hypnotic vocals elevate Tognetti’s compositions, which include a reimagining of Paganini’s devilish 'Caprice No. 24'.
Perfect for lifting you out of your lockdown blues, Matisse Ruby’s exquisitely cinematic concert film Love & Transfiguration transforms shadows into the radiance of new light. Featuring performances of Pēteris Vasks' 'Vox amoris' and Schoenberg's 'Verklärte Nacht', the moving this concert experience evokes life’s complex play of melancholy and elation, where joy can spring from our darkest moments and love emerges as the ultimate redemption.
One from – and for – the heart, the magical Tchaikovsky's Serenade concert film celebrates the work of two composers who reached into their emotional core and gave the world something special. In 'Serenade for Strings', Tchaikovsky goes deep into his innermost feelings, conjuring up his adoration for Mozart and the eclectic influence of Russian folk music – resulting in one of his most beloved and enduring works. In George Walker’s 'Lyric for Strings', the pioneering Black composer and Pulitzer Prize-winner mixes a lamentation into a dramatic movement of lush harmonies and stark solo passages.
The final spectacular concert film, Tabula Rasa, features Artistic Director Richard Tognetti leading the ACO through performances of Arvo Pärt's 'Tabula Rasa' and Shostakovich's 'Chamber Symphony', backed by luscious video projections by renowned cinematographer Jon Frank and Beizj Studio.
All five works are available as a special collection, available to watch for 30 days for $29.99.
