Dedicated to the music of living composers with a holistic commitment to the music of our time, Ensemble Offspring, led by acclaimed percussionist Claire Edwardes, create musical experiences that stimulate the senses and pique curiosity. New sounds, exciting collaborations, showcasing the original voices of living artists - their repertoire is progressive and innovative.
Mesmerism is an intimate and eclectic program featuring the quintet of Ensemble Offspring musicians Claire Edwardes (percussion/artistic director), Ben Kopp (piano), Lamorna Nightingale (flutes), Jason Noble (clarinets), and our 2020/21 Associate Artist Will Hansen (double bass).
Ensemble Offspring present a new arrangement of local hero Melody Eötvös’s duo celebrating the tiny water bear, Tardigradus, for flute and vibraphone. Andrea Keller’s Love in Solitude was written for the group in 2016 as a result of winning the Merlyn Myer Commission, and combines manipulated samples of the performers on stage with poignant text from Rainer Maria Rilke. Finally, the concert takes its title from Jessica Wells' vibrant arrangement of Paul Mac’s 2019 electronica release, Mesmerism, a virtuosic rendition best experienced live.
