This Event is:

A musical picture that's seductive and comforting

The mood is intense and dramatic, from the urgency and vitality of Beethoven's string trio to Schubert's great string quartet, based on his song Death and the Maiden. The quartet might end with a 'dance of death' but Schubert paints a musical picture that's not so much terrifying as seductive and comforting. (Death and the Maiden has long been regarded by music lovers as one of Schubert's masterpieces; if you're a theatre goer you'll recognise it as a central inspiration for Ariel Dorfman's haunting play.)

Beethoven String Trio in C minor, Op.9 No.3
Schubert String Quartet in D minor (Death and the Maiden)
