A blistering DJ set from Detroit techno royalty
Often credited for pioneering, if not outright inventing minimal techno, trailblazing American DJ and dance music producer Robert Hood is bringing his genre-defining sound to a transcendent one-off DJ set at the Studio to mark his Sydney Opera House debut.
A founding member of the legendary Detroit techno trio Underground Resistance alongside ‘Mad’ Mike Banks and Jeff Mills, Hood helped revolutionize techno throughout the 1990s and beyond, stripping back the sound to minimalism on bona fide classic records like Minimal Nation, Nighttime World, and his masterwork, Internal Empire, which married sublime, sometimes punishing beats to deep, soulful grooves and jazzy experimentation.
Constantly moving forward and innovating, Hood continues to be a key techno figure in the 21st century, both solo and with his daughter, Lyric, in his much-acclaimed side project Floorplan. His most recent release, 2017’s Paradygm Shift, saw him return on “a mission to fly the flag for the restorative powers of minimalism.”
Now taking us on a Detroit dance odyssey on the thundering Studio sound system, see Robert Hood at his minimal best at the Sydney Opera House for a night of transcendent techno.
