The stormy singer-songwriter returns
The world was a very different place when Sharon Van Etten made her Sydney Opera House debut at Vivid in 2019 with a sold out show at the Joan Sutherland Theatre. Three years and one pandemic later, she’s returned with a powerful and poignant sixth album, We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong, and to mark its release she’s heading back to our shores for one night only in the Concert Hall.
With her signature intensity, Van Etten spent the pandemic musing on how we feel, mourn and reclaim our agency in a world that might be falling apart, resulting in one of her most affecting – and epic – records to date. Released in May, We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong was acclaimed by critics and fans, with Pitchfork describing it as “a raging bonfire… although its scale is monumental, it boasts a revealing depth of field, every dramatic arc finely detailed".
Fresh off her North American tour, Van Etten will be performing songs from the new album, alongside a selection of classics including 2014’s Are We There –described by Rolling Stone as “one of the great albums of the century” – and 2019’s sonically dazzling, synth-fueled Remind Me Tomorrow.
