Join Manal al-Sharif, Van Badham and Clementine Ford as they talk about the deeper systemic and structural factors behind female oppression and inequality. They'll delve into the broad spectrum of issues facing women, including sexual harassment and violence, workplace inequality, domestic labour and cultural representation.

Moving beyond the western world, this important discussion will take an inter-cultural perspective - unpacking how the experience of women across the world is in some ways so similar, yet in others seems worlds apart.

Explore the things that unify us, and the ways we can help each other as these patriarchy smashing women give you some tips as to how we can subvert, challenge, and perhaps even eventually overthrow the structures of inequality.

More about the speakers

Manal al-Sharif
Manal al-Sharif was essential in starting a woman’s right to drive campaign in Saudi Arabia in 2011. The fearless activist has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Guardian on women’s rights, divorce, and driving illegally.
Van Badham
Van Badham is a weekly columnist for The Guardian in Australia. She is also a theatre-maker and novelist, occasional broadcaster, critic and feminist. She is vice-president of the MEAA in Victoria.
Clementine Ford
Clementine Ford is a Melbourne-based writer, speaker and feminist. She is a columnist for Fairfax’s Daily Life and is a regular contributor to The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald.
Barbara Kingsolver
A biologist and bestselling author, Barbara Kingsolver is widely renowned for her 1999 novel, The Poisonwood Bible, about an American missionary family in the Congo.
