Manal al-Sharif was essential in starting a woman’s right to drive campaign in Saudi Arabia in 2011. The fearless activist has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Guardian on women’s rights, divorce, and driving illegally. After she was arrested for getting behind the wheel, she spent nine days in prison, was pushed out of her job, and forced to leave the country. She is the author of the memoir Daring to Drive: A Saudi Woman's Awakening.
