Sewing threads of subverison

Embroidery, knitting and crochet - women's art has historically been confined to the domestic realm, with the infantilizing definition of 'craft'. But textiles and tapestries have long been a way for women to transcend oppressive culture and spread subversive messages, from life stories woven into 19th century wall hangings to craftivism today.

Enter Ukraine-born, Melbourne-based artist Stanislava Pinchuk, aka Miso, whose work in textiles and tattoos have captured the attention of Cara Delevingne and Florence Welch. Using different materials, she maps the topographies of conflict areas - like Chernobyl and Fukoshima - as well as the landscape of France's infamous Calais Jungle refugee camp. Join artist Miso as she shares how her work follows the lineage of this radical practice.
