What should I wear?

So long as you’re wearing shoes and a shirt, whatever you like. We’re pretty informal here at the Opera House. There’s no real dress code, so you’ll fit right in with casual attire. But, if you’d like to frock up, go for it! If it's a special occasion, dressing up makes everything 100% more enjoyable.

Will there be bag checks, and is cloaking available?

In accordance with our venue security procedures, Opera House security will be scanning and checking bags under the Monumental Stairs, prior to entering the building. Bags will be scanned by an x-ray machine, and staff will wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling your belongings, such as gloves. Cloaking facilities will be open 60 minutes pre-show for Joan Sutherland Theatre performances, and 60 minutes pre-show for Western Foyer venue performances. However it is strongly encouraged that you travel lightly to minimise contact and queuing. Any bags larger than an A4 piece of paper will need to be checked into the Cloak Room.

Will the building maintenance works at the Opera House affect the experience?

The Opera House is currently undertaking critical maintenance works to address water leakage issues affecting the Lower Concourse. These necessary works are required to mitigate long-term water damage to the Opera House building and its structure. These works will not impact your visit, it's business as usual!

Do ensure that you arrive at the Sydney Opera House at least 15 minutes before your experience to allow sufficient time to cloak any bags and personal belongings.

Am I able to purchase a buy-out for the experience?

The maximum group size for booking is 4 people per event.

If you would like to book out the experience for a private function please contact our Reservations team at tourism@sydneyoperahouse.com or call 02 9250 7250.
