Sydney Opera House x Virgin Active


Sydney Opera House in collaboration with Virgin Active invite you to take part in a unique fitness experience like no other. Join a team of highly experienced instructors for Yoga, Pilates, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) or a special Class Mashup as you get active while overlooking spectacular Sydney Harbour.

Location: Upper Eastern Podium at the top of the Opera House Monumental Steps and the Northern Broadwalk
 

Keeping you safe

  • The Sydney Opera House is registered as a COVID Safe business with the NSW Government.
  • Get Active at the House has the safety and well-being of participants and instructors foremost in our planning. Patrons must follow NSW Health guidelines and follow COVID safe practices when attending Get Active at the House classes.
  • In addition to signing in via a QR code, prior to your arrival you will need to complete health check questions via Virgin Active's MyLocker booking website before participating in each class.
  • As Government recommendations evolve we will continue to update information about event attendance. 
  • Patrons who reside in or have recently visited any of the identified COVID-19 locations in the past 14 days should follow NSW Health orders and not attend the event. Attending Get Active at the House when you are unwell puts yourself and others at risk. Attending while under quarantine or isolation orders is prohibited, and if you appear to have COVID-19 symptoms you may be denied entry to minimise the risk to others. 
  • With your co-operation, trust and patience, we can make Get Active at the House a safe event for everyone.

Facilities

All Manduka yoga mats are sourced from Europe and equipment including headphones will be provided for you. All you have to do is turn up to class with water and a towel. There are toilets onsite and food and beverage will be available for purchase after the class. There are no showers onsite.

Pilates

Feel aligned, tall, strong, and flexible with mat Pilates under the sails. Created by Joseph Pilates, it is the art of controlled movement that allows you to develop a strong core powerhouse. Choose to maintain the flow and precision of each exercise with our Align class, or experience fast dynamic movements, sure to make you sweat with our Athletic class.

HIIT

Work up a sweat with scenic harbour views. Using elements of strength and conditioning, our HIIT class will have you building stamina, strength and stability. Expect to raise your heartrate as you squat, lunge, bend and twist. 

Mashup

A uniquely curated class that integrates all styles into one experience. Movements in this class are influenced by yoga, Pilates and HIIT to awaken your body, focus the mind, activate your muscles and finally, to get your heart rate up humming.

Where you need to go

Morning Classes - Upper Eastern Podium

As you walk up to the Sydney Opera House from Circular Quay, walk up the right side steps of the Opera House to be greeted by a Welcome Team member prior to your class.

Evening and Weekend Classes - Northern Broadwalk

As you walk up to the Sydney Opera House from Circular Quay, walk along the western broadwalk which is the harbour bridge side of the Opera House. When you get to the end of the western broadwalk head right and you will see a Welcome Team member who will be waiting to greet you prior to your class.

What safety measures have you implemented?

Nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of everyone on site, and we are closely following NSW Health guidelines and advice. The Sydney Opera House is registered as a COVID Safe business with the NSW Government. For detailed information about our COVID-19 safety measures and what’s required of you when visiting, please see our plan your visit page.

How are you managing contact tracing?

All participants must check-in via QR code upon arrival to the class.

Frequently Asked Questions - Fitness Classes

Do I need to book in advance?

Pre-booking is essential. You can book classes in advance via the Virgin Active website.

Can I book my friend in a class?

Your friend will need to purchace their own ticket to the Get Active at the House classes so they can fill in the health check questions and join the class.

Do I need to become a Virgin Active member to attend the classe at Sydney Opera House?

No, you do not need to become a member of Virgin Active. You will need to register for a Virgin Active MyLocker account to allow you to book and pay for your class. You will be signing up to a Pay As You Go (PAYG) account and in doing so you will gain access to purchase Virgin Active experiences. You are not committed to any ongoing payments and your account can be cancelled at any time. 

What are the transport options to the Opera House?

You can catch public transport (bus, train, ferry) to Circular Quay and enjoy a 6 minute walk to the Opera House. If you’re getting dropped off in a car, head to the roundabout at the bottom of Macquarie Street where staff will direct you to a safe place to pull over.

What happens if I can't make the class?

If you're unable to make a class and cancel it before 8pm on the day before the class booking via MyLocker, Virgin Active will give you a credit to be used for a future class booking. Credits must be used within 6 months of the original class booking otherwise they will be forfeited.

If you cancel a class booking after 8pm on the day before the class booking you won’t be entitled to any refund or credit of the class booking fee. 

If you do not attend a class booking you won’t be entitled to any refund or credit of the class booking fee.

Club visit bookings must be used within 6 months of the date of purchase and cannot be cancelled or refunded.

Pay As You Go Booking credits can only be redeemed against certain class or activity types. Your MyLocker account will show the classes and activities that are available to book for your credit type.

Where do I go for the class?

For morning classes, meet your coach at the top of the stairs, above the forecourt, right in front of the Sydney Opera House.

For evening and weekend classes, head along the western broadwalk which is the harbour bridge side of the Opera House. When you come to the end of the western broadwalk, head right until you see the Virgin Active coach.

What time do I need to arrive? 

It’s a great idea to arrive 15 minutes early and soak up the view. You can also talk to the coaches and discuss any requirements or injuries prior to class. 

What should I wear?

We recommend choosing clothing that you feel comfortable working out in. For example, sneakers for HIIT and relaxed clothing for yoga. 

What if it is raining?

If the is raining, the class will not proceed and will be cancelled. Virgin Active will notify you and automatically apply a credit to your MyLocker account for future bookings. Credits may be used for classes at the Sydney Opera House or any Virgin Active club in Australia.

Is equipment provided or do I bring my own?

All equipment is provided for you so you just need to turn up. We recommend bringing a drink bottle and towel.

Feel free to bring your own mat if you like.

Do I need to complete a medical questionnaire? 

Yes, you will be prompted to complete Virgin Active's mandatory health check questions when booking a class in MyLocker. This will enable the coaches to assess any health conditions or issues before you participate in a class. If any of your responses to the health check questions change, you must let us know before you purchase/attend your next class.
