This show runs for approximately 2 hours 30 mins, with one 30 min interval timed for the 9pm fireworks.

Should ticket holders arrive late, they will be let in at an appropriate time.

Ringside seats to the greatest show on earth are hard to come by, but we've saved some great ones, and you're invited. Be entertained at the Opera Gala, featuring favourites by Verdi, Puccini, Rossini and more.

Then, with a heart full of song, watch the fireworks the whole world watches. Interval is timed for the 9pm fireworks and the Sydney Opera House stays open well past the midnight fireworks.

If you don’t have tickets to the Midnight Party, there are a limited number of outdoor viewing areas you'll be able to access following the performance. Please note that these spaces are limited and cannot be guaranteed.

Some fireworks can be viewed from the Southern Foyers inside Sydney Opera House at midnight, but you may not have a view of Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Pre-Performance Dinner

Look out over Sydney Harbour as you dine on a three-course menu, matched with premium wines and beverages in the Northern Foyer from 5:30pm.

Midnight Party

Enjoy canapés, drinks and live entertainment from 10:30pm, with views of the midnight fireworks from the Northern Foyers.

For the best viewing of the midnight fireworks, book tickets to this exclusive party, overlooking Sydney Harbour with fantastic views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Please be aware that this event is very popular, so the balconies will be crowded during the fireworks.

Who are the authorised ticket sellers for this event?

The authorised agencies for this event are the Sydney Opera House and Opera Australia.

Only tickets purchased by authorised agencies should be considered valid and reliable.

The Sydney Opera House is the only authorised ticket seller for Events at the Sydney Opera House, unless we specify on our website that there are other authorised ticket sellers for a specific event.

Tickets purchased from Ticketmaster Resale, Viagogo, Ticketbis, eBay, Gumtree, Tickets Australia or any other unauthorised re-seller may be cancelled without notice and/or the holder may be refused admission to the event. 

Do I have to get dressed up?

It’s a lot of fun to put on your glamorous best for a night at the opera, but casual dress is perfectly acceptable.

I have specific access needs. How can I plan my night?

We warmly welcome patrons with mobility issues, however entry to the Sydney Opera House on New Year’s Eve can be difficult and needs careful prior planning.

Any guests with access needs, particularly those with mobility support needs, must contact Sydney Opera House on 02 9250 7777 before the event to help plan their evening at the Sydney Opera House.

Can I arrive early?

We understand that you want to leave plenty of time to arrive at the Sydney Opera House on such a special night, however we suggest you don’t arrive before 4:30pm. The Southern Foyers will be open from 6pm, unless you have booked the pre-performance dinner.

How do I get home by taxi?

Taxis cannot be booked to pick up in areas where there are road closures. If you wish to travel home by taxi, the closest secure taxi rank is located approximately a two-kilometre walk from Sydney Opera House, on Liverpool Street, between Wentworth Avenue and Elizabeth Street, south of Hyde Park. Where's the best place to see the midnight fireworks?

For the best viewing of the midnight fireworks, book tickets to the exclusive Midnight Party, overlooking Sydney Harbour with fantastic views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

When do I clap?

All applause will be gratefully received, although it is polite to wait until the singing has stopped. Don’t be alarmed if the people around you start stomping their feet at the end of the performance: this is an opera tradition to show your enjoyment and appreciation. Feel free to join in!

How do I get to the Sydney Opera House on NYE?

Public transport is the best way to get around on New Year’s Eve, with main roads closed in the Sydney CBD. Please approach the Sydney Opera House on foot along the Eastern side of Macquarie Street. Access may not be available from Circular Quay along the harbour front.

Train: Extra trains will be running to and from the city. The nearest train stations are Martin Place, St James and Wynyard. Please note, trains will not stop at Circular Quay between 6pm and 1am.

Bus: From 2pm to 6pm, Circular Quay services begin and end at Martin Place. From 6pm, temporary bus stops will be in place throughout the city. Extra buses will operate on some routes. Road closures in the city may mean that your bus stop will be moved.

Ferry: Extra services will run until the harbour exclusion zone is in force. During the exclusion zone, ferry services will be cancelled.

How do I get into the Sydney Opera House on NYE?

You should approach the Sydney Opera House from the eastern side of Macquarie Street where there will be a security checkpoint. Please be prepared to show your tickets in order to pass through to the Sydney Opera House precinct. 

If you need to collect your tickets, they will be at the Sydney Opera House Box Office marquee from 10am, located near the checkpoint on the corner of Macquarie and Bridge Streets. You will need to present photo ID and the credit card you used to purchase your tickets.

From the checkpoint, it's a 900-metre walk to the Sydney Opera House, plus two flights of stairs up to the theatre.
