The Sydney Symphony Celebrates Paul Goodchild
For Nielsen, music lives ‘tenfold more intensely than any living thing’ – music lives in the glorious profusion of his Fourth Symphony. A performance of The Inextinguishable, says critic Tom Service, ‘should leave you battered yet uplifted, dazed but thrilled’.
William Lovelock’s Australian classic concerto captures the spirit of the trumpet with springing rhythms, brassy thrills and jaunty tunes. It also spotlights the trumpet’s hidden talent for lyrical song and showcases the artistry of our Associate Principal Trumpet Paul Goodchild.
On Wednesday night, to begin a concert that’s brazen and bright, music by award-winning young composer Ella Macens takes us to the space between stars.
On Thursday and Friday Sibelius’s rousing Finlandia begins the concert with a life-affirming celebration of music’s power, and a virtual anthem for Finnish independence and freedom everywhere.
