Dvořák's captivating concerto harnesses the full expressive range of the cello's voice, from fierce declamation to soaring song.
Its big tunes and electric energy have secured it a place in the hearts of audiences and artists everywhere. In the moments of wistful sadness that interrupt the celebratory finales are hints that the concerto is a tribute to Dvorak’s youthful lost love.
Poetic cellist Daniel Müller-Schott is acclaimed for his spellbinding performances of this king of concertos, bringing to the surface the deep sense of yearning that pervades it. A warm, ravishing sound and eloquent musicianship have earned him a place at the top of his field.
The stormy seas of Tchaikovsky and Ravel are apt preludes to Dvořák's powerful emotions. Dynamic French conductor Fabien Gabel is justly acclaimed for his revelatory performances of these familiar works.
