Meet the Artist...
Yve Blake is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, and songwriter. She's best known for writing the Book, Music, and Lyrics of the hit musical FANGIRLS, which has been awarded the 2019 Sydney Theatre Award for Best Mainstage Musical, the Matilda Award for Best Musical or Cabaret, and the 2020 AWGIE award for Music Theatre. After premiering to five-star reviews and sell-out crowds in 2019, 2021 FANGIRLS returned in 2021 for a national tour and will return again in 2022 to play the Sydney Opera House. Yve's songwriting on FANGIRLS scored her an Aria award nomination for Best Original Soundtrack or Musical Theatre Cast Album, and currently, Yve is developing a screen adaptation of FANGIRLS with Fremantle.
As a theatremaker, Yve has developed and presented her work at Belvoir, Griffin Theatre Company, Queensland Theatre, Soho Theatre, Southbank Centre, Old Vic New Voices, the National Theatre Studio, and The Barbican. She is an alumni of the Royal Court Writers’ Programme, was the inaugural recipient of the ATYP Rebel Wilson Theatre-maker scholarship, and has also been a visiting artist at Princeton University. Yve’s 2019 TEDxSydney talk “For the love of Fangirls” has been promoted to an official TED talk on TED.com, where it has been viewed more than 1.3 million times.
Her current projects under commission include a co-written feature film about Rock Eisteddfods for Aquarius films and a family movie musical for Mark Gordon Productions.
