Vivid LIVE goes Carbon Neutral

For the fourth consecutive year, Vivid LIVE will be carbon neutral as part of our ongoing commitment to reducing environmental impact, from day-to-day building operations to the world-class art performed on Sydney’s most famous stages.

A number of green initiatives will be put into practice at this year’s Vivid LIVE:

Thinking outside the bottle: 200 artists and crew will receive reusable water bottles rather than bottled water – saving an estimated 6,000 plastic water bottles across the event.

Reducing food waste to landfill: Following a successful Vivid LIVE 2015 pilot project providing surplus edible food to the food-rescue charity OzHarvest. Alongside these food donations, all non-edible food waste from Opera House restaurants will be sent to Earth Power – a facility that produces electricity and fertilizer from the food waste.

Track and offset

We will track and offset all carbon emissions during Vivid LIVE including flights for performers, artist transport, catering, hotel accommodation, waste and paper. Following the success of last year’s event, staff and audience travel will be estimated as part of the footprint. All carbon calculations and offsetting will be externally verified in line with National Carbon Offset Standard (NCOS) requirement. 100% of the carbon generated from Vivid LIVE will be offset via the purchase of certified carbon credit and reported on the Opera House website.
