About Vivid LIVE

From 24 May – 15 June, Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House will welcome some of the most ambitious and innovative local and international artists for an 23-day takeover of contemporary music on the nation's most famous stages - as part of Vivid Sydney, the largest festival of light, music and ideas in the Southern Hemisphere.

Evolving into its second decade in 2019, Vivid LIVE is the annual centrepiece of the Sydney Opera House’s Contemporary Music program featuring Australian premieres, exclusives and one-off music projects and cultural events that consistently defy expectation and break new ground.

In 2019, the iconic sails of Sydney Opera House will be lit with the work of Chinese-American artist Andrew Thomas Huang.

Vivid LIVE invites audiences to celebrate today’s icons, innovators and tomorrow's defining artists.

Curator's note

Ben Marshall

"This year's Vivid Live has been a genuine pleasure to program - from The Cure to Kelsey Lu, from Sharon Van Etten to Briggs, it's a selection of ambitious outsider artists who've spectacularly succeeded on their own rigorous terms.

It's also a celebration of the cultural landscape's blurring genres, subcultures and artistic practices, beautifully exemplified here by Lonnie Holley, Wu Tsang and our commission of Jóhann Jóhannsson's final multimedia masterpiece Last and First Men, as well as the Lighting of the Sails artist Andrew Thomas Huang's iridescent transfiguration of Utzon's iconic vision.

We look forward to welcoming people from across Australia and overseas to these unmissable special projects and exciting rare appearances within a building symbolising artistic excellence, inspiration and the liberating power of art."
