More about The Street University...
The Street University was established over 10 years ago in Liverpool NSW and has since spread through multiple locations throughout NSW, the ACT and QLD.
The Street Universities are dynamic spaces that embrace young people’s culture; their music, art, dance and stories and engages them in such a way that the help and support they need can be easily accessed. They are shaped and driven by the needs and activities of young people. Programs delivered are specifically designed for, and in consultation with, young people and operate in a safe, highly visible, youth-friendly environment.
This “non-traditional” setting provides interventions to the young people that deliver a significant increase in mental well-being. A wide range of arts, recreational activities and workshops are the hooks that provide a warm entry to The Street Universities’ range of services.
With an amazing display of dance & music performances, The Street University Experience demonstrates a cross section of the amazing creativity that buzzes in our spaces. It transports the audience to experience The Street University, if only for an hour.
Meet the Artists...
The Pioneers
The Pioneers are a Sydney based megacrew that began in 2013 and have made a positive impact in the youth of the Sydney dance community. They’ve been titled New South Wales’ champions in 2014 and 2015, Australian gold medallists and international silver medallists in 2019, and have taken their unique performance style across Australia.
The Pioneers provide high energy entertainment which includes various dance styles such as old school moves and grooves, Dancehall, Waacking, Vogue, and Urban choreography.
Each member has an incredible and varied dance history. Some have had extensive training at prestigious studios, and others have had raw experiences as performers and choreographers for major events.
Dauntless Movement Crew
Dauntless Movement Crew (DMC) is a team of young athletes and entrepreneurs that have a common interest in the art of movement and extreme sport.
DMC started as a hobby crew in 2010 with just six members primarily training in the art of parkour in the streets of Fairfield, Sydney Australia. In 2015 they expanded their core team to ten members and officially known as DMC - a movement based stunt team combining art forms such as Tricking, Breakdancing, Parkour, Acrobatics and Fire stunts in live performances all over Sydney and teaching over 200 students weekly. The countless hours training at our local park and commitment to the team was the start to our long-term career as a stunt team performing our first debut at the 'Australian Hip-Hop Championships' in 2015 featured as special guests.
To date - DMC is the leading stunt team in Australia performing full-time interstate and international in a variety of stunt shows for Festivals, Corporate events, Weddings and Theatre shows winning 1st place at the 'Australian dance awards 2017' for their 'Jump First, Ask Later' theatre show. Our career highlights featuring in films such as Fat pizza vs Housos, Kingsman and The Meg. Our stunts have been featured in commercials for Telstra, St George bank, Westpac bank, Optus, Dancing with the stars, Studio Ten, Quanta’s inflight commercials, Sunrise Channel 7 and many more.
Our Mission is to perform and teach worldwide to inspire the young generation to follow their dreams and do what they love. We want to create opportunities for young athletes as fitness/movement instructors providing jobs in the entertainment industry such as television commercials, music videos, and live performances.
Clarissa Mei
Western Sydney’s own Clarissa Mei produces music on Darug country that is honest and empowering. With a signature production style nostalgic of 90s neo-soul and a hint of future R'n'B. Her dreamy debut EP Vulnerable covets self-love ballads with melodies tranquil and fresh as the summer rain.
Fierce and unapologetic, her euphony invokes a sense of longing for acceptance mixed with the anticipation and magic of loves soft touch.
Lxgcy
Andre Jovanic, aka Lxgcy, is a South West Sydney born and raised Rapper and Artist.
From a young age, Lxgcy has been surprising those around him with a natural talent for rhyming, and his ability to tackle mature and intellectual topics. At 15 years of age Lxgcy began working with established local acts and producers such as Druitt Empire, Stan Bravo, Esky and more, as he expanded his style and portfolio. Around this time he performed whenever possible, perfecting his ability to entertain the crowd.
With a desire to express his emotions, Lxgcy’s journey as a writer began when his mother handed him a journal. He used this as a way to write down his feelings and process his day to day life. From there he began to put his lyrics to music, leading to recording sessions with Mt Druitt OG, Druitt Empire.
Early on, Lxgcy’s influences predominantly came from old school music, including soul and 90’s Boom Bap Hip Hop, with acts like Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Biggie Smalls, Nas and Big L catching his attention. However, as time evolved, and with Influences of modern day acts such as Anderson Paak, Kendrick Lamar, FKJ and Malz Monday, he has learned to blend his style of lyricism and flows with modern topics and production.
Lxgcy aims to leave a mark on this earth. As someone who is easily relatable, he hopes his fans use his music to find solace in dark times or enjoyment in the good moments. He wishes for his music to inspire intellectual thought and self reflection.
With a new mentality and approach, including a slight name change, Lxgcy’s latest single “Number$” , proves his ability to adapt to modern production and carry a track on his own, 2022 is sure to be filled with Features , Singles and shows for the young artist.
Montanah
14 year old Montanah from Western Sydney is making waves not only as a prodigy vocal powerhouse, but an advocate for social-awareness issues and influencer for her Indigenous community.
Given the title of the 'Little Girl with the BIG VOICE' by the press, Montanah's vocal capabilities need to be seen to be believed.
In her very short career as an Artist, Montanah has not only collaborated with some of the country’s top producers, but been one of the youngest Indigenous Artists to ever grace the red carpet at the 2019 ARIA Awards.
Montanah's association with Jam 4 Awareness (a not-for-profit social-awareness initiative) has enabled her a platform to advocate against social-awareness issues such as bullying and discrimination and represent her culture at multiple NRL stadiums for both opening ceremony and half-time entertainment, Westfield shopping centres and various Indigenous events.
Montanah is also a young Ambassador for Dolly's Dream and has performed at numerous charity and fundraising functions, been a guest Artist for National Youth Week's Youth Rock competition where she caught the attention of the press and was shortly after featured in Total Girl magazine at just 10 years of age.
Montanah is currently in the production stage of working on her debut EP with The Voice winner Chris Sebastian and ARIA Award winning producer DUO The Bantons, with her single 'Indestructible' due out later this year
