Airbnb Experiences

We’ve joined forces with our Partner Airbnb to offer truly one of a kind experiences for local Sydneysiders and tourists alike. Through Airbnb’s latest Experiences platform, travellers can experience any city like a local while residents will discover things they never thought they could do in their own backyard.

Ultimate New Year's Eve

We are hosting a special Experience on Airbnb, offering 10 people the opportunity to enjoy the ultimate New Year’s Eve, for just $10 each. Guests will be hosted in a special VIP area in the heart of the Opera House with front-row seats to one of the world’s most spectacular fireworks displays. They will be treated to a superb dinner curated by hatted chef Karen Martini, learn the secrets of Australia’s most famous building from an expert Opera House host and enjoy an intimate concert before stepping onto their private Opera House balcony to welcome 2020 in style – all for less than the cost of a movie ticket.

For tickets to this special one-off event, head to and look out for the Opera House’s ultimate New Year’s Eve package. Follow the prompts to purchase a double pass for the New Year’s Eve Experience (total cost of $20). Only five pairs of tickets are available, with one pair released each Wednesday at midday from Wednesday 13 November until Wednesday 11 December.

Best Seat in the House

To celebrate the launch of Airbnb Experiences we hosted our first Experience, Best Seat in the House, where guests took part in the ultimate “behind the scenes” experience at Australia’s busiest performing arts centre. After mingling with performers and artists backstage in the Green Room, guests were led up 500 stairs to witness the best of Sydney Opera House’s contemporary music from an area above the auditorium the general public has never before had access too.

Sustainability Tour at the House

To celebrate Sustainable House Day on 17th September, the Opera House launched the Sustainability Tour. Host, Emma Bombonato, Environmental Sustainability Manager, takes guests behind the scenes of the world’s most famous house to explore rarely seen spaces including its innovative waste recycling centre and the award-winning, energy-efficient lighting system in the internationally-renowned Concert Hall. Learn how the Opera House is building on architect Jørn Utzon’s legacy of sustainable design through its commitment to energy and water efficiency, green cleaning, waste recycling, carbon reduction and other green initiatives – which together have helped make the Opera House one of the only World Heritage-listed buildings to achieve green certification globally.

Photography Tour at the House

Join Prudence, one of Sydney Opera House’s Resident Photographers who has captured major events, concerts and talks at the Sydney Opera House for over ten years. Her highlights include Massive Attack, Paul Kelly, Florence, and the Machine on the Forecourt; The Cure, Solange, Lou Reed and Nick Cave in the Concert Hall as well as All About Women, Antidote and Homeground festivals throughout the House amongst many others. Prudence will take you behind the scenes to some of her most favourite places to shoot at the House. You will be able to access rarely seen spaces beneath the sails, which make the Opera House an architectural masterpiece.

Whether you are an amateur or seasoned professional this photography tour will be packed full of tips and tricks to improve your skills and allow you to capture some of the most magical spaces which have helped make the opera House one of the most photographed buildings in the world.

Barre Class at the House

Join Katie for a Barre Class in the Rehearsal Room, the same space that The Australian Ballet and Opera Australia performers use throughout the year to practice for their renowned performances. The classes are a dynamic fusion of the freedom of movement with a focus on toning, lengthening and strengthening exercises, combined with short bursts of intense cardio to keep the heart rate up and encourage blood flow. In the inspiring surrounds of the Sydney Opera House we will dance our way through a challenging and fun workout.

We’ll be unveiling new experiences on a regular basis so check in to see what exciting opportunities are on offer.
