Airbnb Experiences

We’ve joined forces with our Partner Airbnb to offer truly one of a kind experiences for local Sydneysiders and tourists alike. Through Airbnb’s latest Experiences platform, travellers can experience any city like a local while residents will discover things they never thought they could do in their own backyard.

Airbnb Concerts

The Sydney Opera House and Airbnb today announced a new series of unique and intimate performances from inspiring First Nations artists that will take place in the stunning surrounds of the Utzon Room, the only Opera House venue designed entirely by its architect, Jørn Utzon.

Airbnb Concerts are immersive, shared experiences around live music, hosted by a local insider with a unique perspective on the music industry.

Curated by Sydney Opera House Head of First Nations Programming, Rhoda Roberts AO, the new series of one-of-a-kind experiences celebrates the vibrancy and rich contemporary culture of Australia’s First Nations, and will feature an incredible line-up of emerging and established First Nations artists, including:

• Filipino and Indigenous hip hop artist and drummer DOBBY (aka Rhyan Clapham);
• Rap royalty Tasman Keith;
• Australian hip hop host and musician Hau Latukefu;
• Singer-songwriter Radical Son (aka David Leha); and
• Rising indie-rock singer-songwriter Tia Gostelow.

Best Seat in the House

To celebrate the launch of Airbnb Experiences we hosted our first Experience, Best Seat in the House, where guests took part in the ultimate “behind the scenes” experience at Australia’s busiest performing arts centre. After mingling with performers and artists backstage in the Green Room, guests were led up 500 stairs to witness the best of Sydney Opera House’s contemporary music from an area above the auditorium the general public has never before had access too.

Mix at the House

We have also launched another unique Experience to Mix at the House in the Opera House’s very own Intel Broadcast Studio. Guests spent the day mixing and refining their own track with Host Shane Johnson, Sydney Opera House’s Head of Recording and Broadcast and their very own dedicated Sound Engineer. You don’t need to be a famous tenor or a rockstar to be heard in the Opera House, all you need is a song or demo that you’re ready to take to the next level.

Sustainability Tour at the House

To celebrate Sustainable House Day on 17th September, the Opera House launched the Sustainability Tour. Host, Emma Bombonato, Environmental Sustainability Manager, takes guests behind the scenes of the world’s most famous house to explore rarely seen spaces including its innovative waste recycling centre and the award-winning, energy-efficient lighting system in the internationally-renowned Concert Hall. Learn how the Opera House is building on architect Jørn Utzon’s legacy of sustainable design through its commitment to energy and water efficiency, green cleaning, waste recycling, carbon reduction and other green initiatives – which together have helped make the Opera House one of the only World Heritage-listed buildings to achieve green certification globally.

We’ll be unveiling new experiences on a regular basis so check in to see what exciting opportunities are on offer.
