About Olivia Ansell

Olivia is the Head of Contemporary Performance at Sydney Opera House, presenting the best in contemporary dance, theatre, circus, magic, comedy, musicals, cabaret and popular culture from Australia and around the world.

A leading curator, performer, director, choreographer, programmer and producer with more than 20 years’ experience, Olivia was voted one of Vivid Sydney’s Top 100 Creative Catalysts.

Her extensive experience includes roles as the co-executive producer and driving force behind the hugely-popular, immersive experience Hidden Sydney, Artistic Director of Sydney Comedy Festival at Sydney Town Hall and Curator of Kings Bloody Cross for Vivid Ideas.

In 2016, she produced Nigel Jamieson’s HOME, Perth International Arts Festival’s largescale concert spectacular featuring 500 artists. Previous roles have included the inaugural Executive Producer of Shaun Parker & Company, touring Parker’s dance theatre works across the globe, and Manager of Development for the newly formed Hayes Theatre Co, generating support for Australia’s independent home for musical theatre.

Cultural fix

  • Catch a bit of culture at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Gaeity Theatre, National Art Gallery and Natural History Museum
  • Take a class at the Dance Theatre of Ireland in Dun Laoghaire! Great day trip.
  • Experience the Dublin Dance Festival (May) or Dublin Fringe Festival (September) if the timing works!

Live like a local

  • Pass the day wandering through Stoney Batter down by the River Liffey, continue strolling to cross over the Ha Penny Bridge
  • Spend some time in the seaside town of Dalkey and hop on a boat across to Dalkey Island 
  • Window shop your way through  St Stephens Green Park and Grafton Street 

Classic Irish gems

  • Visit the Guinness Factory for a tour and stay to enjoy a famous pint
  • Explore Trinity College to see the Book of Kells and Library or spend the afternoon watching cricket out the back
