New Work Now

Bringing Australian artists to the world

Sydney Opera House is the symbol of Australia. It has a singular capacity and responsibility to present Australian artists to the nation and to the world.

Our New Work Now donors help us invest in Australian artists to create and present bold new works across genres, for diverse audiences, that bring people together through sharing uniquely Australian stories.

New Work Now donors share in the creative process with exclusive updates about current and future commissions from our Director of Programming and senior producers, and are invited to experience each new work as it premieres at the Opera House.

Commissioning New Work Now donors enjoy prominent recognition through named acknowledgment and, in addition to exclusive updates and invitations, have access to the artists during the creative development.

In the last year, our New Work Now donors have enabled 12 new presentations on our physical and digital stages, with over 20 more works in development for presentation over the next three years.

How it works

In New Work Now, we work with acclaimed small companies and independent artists who would not otherwise be able to reach national and international audiences in the way the Opera House can.

With the financial support made possible through our New Work Now donors, we can take the risk to give these artists and their works greater exposure by presenting them on the Opera House’s physical and digital stages.

Through our donors, we enable more people to experience these artists’ works, we bring the works to the attention of the media, and we inspire other Australian artists to make new works that tell our shared stories.

Join us

For over 20 years, Sydney Opera House has presented its own contemporary and classical program. Each year, we present more than half of all performances at the Opera House, reaching a third of all Opera House audiences. We deliver over 800 productions attended by more than 400,000 people across a broad range of artforms for audiences of all ages.

Sydney Opera House, a Deductible Gift Recipient, raises all funds itself for its artistic programming from non-government sources.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss a commission with you.
