Sydney – Friday 23 June, 2017. The Sydney Opera House and global broadcasting platform Boiler Room have collaborated for the first time to capture a special live performance by the enigmatic French duo AIR at Vivid LIVE 2017.
Released today, the exclusive video content of the international hit 'Sexy Boy' was recorded with Boiler Room during AIR's sold-out Vivid LIVE residency. Offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience one of France’s most progressive pioneers in contemporary music live, Boiler Room will also stream the performance in full from 3am AEST on Saturday 24 June.
For the first time in nine years, the electronic duo returned to the Sydney Opera House last month for only their second show in Australia. Reviewed as “the best of AIR's subsequent sonic adventures” and an “absorbing exploration into the most artful of sounds” by The Sydney Morning Herald, the exclusive performances recreated all the hits from AIR’s two-decade career.
AIR formed in the mid-90’s and influenced several generations, leaving their mark on the sound of time. Throughout their career, the electro-acoustic pop band produced cult albums such as their breakthrough Moon Safari in 1998 and The Virgin Suicides in 2000, the pop masterpiece Talkie Walkie in 2004, rich experimentations such as 10 000 Hz Legend in 2001 and various collaborations with Nigel Godrich (Beck, Radiohead), Charlotte Gainsbourg on her 5:55 album, and Jarvis Cocker.
The collaboration marks the start of an ongoing association between Sydney Opera House and the Boiler Room brand. A global cultural phenomenon and ‘home of underground music’, Boiler Room broadcasts the best underground music scenes, subcultures and stories from around the globe and are proven to be the most definitive showcase of new music worldwide.
