Sydney - Tuesday 24 January, 2017. Sydney Opera House is putting kids front, centre – and behind the microphone – in This Kid Life, a new podcast series featuring young people discussing life, the environment, education, creativity, social media and more.
Designed for kids aged eight to thirteen, This Kid Life, showcases big personalities unpacking the big ideas and tough questions usually reserved for their grown-ups.
It follows the Opera House’s highly successful It’s A Long Story podcast series, launched in November 2016, which included interviews with #BlackLivesMatter co-founder Alicia Garza, punk pioneer Henry Rollins and Sudanese refugee and NSW Australian of the Year Deng Thiak Adut.
Replacing Hamish McDonald in the interview chair for the new series, host Jennifer Macey pulls no punches in her interviews with kids, getting to the heart of what matters to them, how they see the world and what the future looks like.
Sydney Opera House Head of Children, Families & Creative Learning, Bridgette Van Leuven said: "In the great tradition of podcasts like This American Life, the Opera House is handing the mic to our littlest voices and letting them opine unrestricted, uncensored and unabashed. These kids may be little, but their voices are big and mighty – and the time to listen is now, because who knows, maybe one of these kids will change the world!"
This Kid Life is part of a growing suite of podcasts aimed at expanding the Sydney Opera House’s reach beyond Bennelong Point. Complementing the Opera House’s school holiday, classroom and online programming for children and young people, it is a handy tool for parents looking to begin important conversations with their children in the comfort of their own homes.
Join Jennifer Macey on a tour of the minds of Australian kids to find out what this kid life is really all about.
