Frequently Asked Questions
Can I take photos during the tour?
We can’t confirm that you can take photos at this event. Please check with staff when you arrive.
There are plenty of photo opportunities throughout the entire tour. Your tour guide will advise you whilst on tour if photographs are not to be taken inside any venues.
What time do I need to arrive before the event?
It’s a great idea to arrive 15 minutes early in preparation for your adventure. This should allow enough time for the mandatory visual inspections and/or cloaking of bags and personal belongings by Opera House security staff before starting your tour.
Where possible, please leave bags at home. Please note we are unable to cloak bags larger than A4 size.
If you are collecting your tickets from the Box Office, we recommend doing this the tour starts. If you have already received your tickets, meet your tour guide beside the Welcome Centre, located on the lower concourse.
Do I need to join my kids on the tour?
Yes. Children aged 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Will the building works at the Opera House affect the tour?
You’ll notice that Sydney Opera House has building works underway in one of the theatres. These works will not impact your visit, it’s business as usual!
Do ensure that you arrive at Sydney Opera House at least 30 minutes before your tour to collect your tickets. For more information head to the Renewal pages.
What should I wear?
So long as you’re wearing shoes and a shirt, whatever you like. We’re pretty informal here at the Opera House.
You’ll be on your feet for the Junior Adventure Tour, there are over 300 stairs, so flat comfortable shoes are recommended. Your feet will thank you!
Where can I eat nearby?
Treat the kids to a Junior Lunch at one of our family friendly restaurants. Find what you’re after, see our Restaurants.
What are the transport options to the Opera House?
You can catch public transport (bus, train, ferry) to Circular Quay and enjoy a 6 min walk to the Opera House. If you’re getting dropped off in a car head to the roundabout at the bottom Macquarie Street where staff will direct you to a safe place to pull over.
