Why the Wild Things Festival Curator loves this showWe love how this performance uses both shadow play from an old school projector, with a live music accompaniment. It reminds us that we can create theatrical magic with the simplest of things.
Meet the cast
Highly sensitive and deeply moved by beauty and poetry, Coline Hateau discovered a true revelation in 2006 when, alongside her brother Timo, she began experimenting with overhead projectors for festival scenography. Enlarging and enhancing details and textures became the starting point of an artistic exploration. Fascinated by the live manipulation of objects and liquids, she gradually developed a practice of improvised shadow theatre performed during concerts and storytelling events.
Over time, her technique became more refined and gave rise to several productions: Imatge e contes, Minimatge e Contots, Jan de L’Ors (Collectif ça-i), L’Epopée d’un Pois (Cie la Rotule), Le Roi des Corbeaux (Sirventès) and Volatile Ombré (Cie la Rotule).
Vincent Lahens, actor and director, has built a diverse artistic career rich in experimentation and creative exploration. After a fairly well-behaved and respectable school career, and with a science-focused high school diploma under his belt, he trained in theatre at the École Régionale d’Acteurs de Cannes (ERAC), under the guidance of renowned directors such as Lavaudant, Sobel, Rambert, Mitrovitsa, Marcowitch and Strancar. This rigorous training gave him the opportunity to work across both classical and contemporary repertoires.
In 2002, Vincent co-founded Théâtre des Deux Mains in the Landes region, and in 2007 he also helped develop AIAA (Atelier d’Initiatives Artistiques et Artisanales). There, he worked extensively with devised theatre and explored a wide range of forms, from storytelling and live cinema concerts to solo performance, event productions, visual arts and performance art, notably alongside visual artist Natacha Sansoz.
Since the early 2000s, he has been active in both the French independent noise rock scene and the classical music world. As a guitarist, singer, keyboardist and computer geek, he has performed in three bands (Tetsuo, Calva and Sibyl Vane) with which he has given over 250 concerts across Europe and recorded nine albums, all released on the Pau-based label A Tant Rêver Du Roi.
Driven by a passion for symphonic music, he brought the Tetsuo Big Band project to life, arranged a show for the Orchestre de Pau, and created orchestral arrangements for the Egyptian Project, featuring 30 string instruments and an ensemble of Egyptian musicians. Through three live film scores and four short films, he has experienced the unique joy of witnessing the subtle alchemy that occurs when music meets image. He has also had the opportunity to blend his music with contemporary theater and dance through numerous collaborative projects.
