For one night, our ears do the watching

Various| 2025 | English, with occasional Tagalog | Experimental, Drama, Memoir

Film studio Garden Reflexxx presents a night of grassroots-filmmaking with an ear to the ground. This special session of ‘sound’ movies features a silent lightshow by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, a musical from Fitch Trecartin Studio, a Kulintang enchantment by Bhenji Ra and much more.

Presented by hybrid video artists Jen Atherton and André Shannon, with dramaturgy by Ruby Arrowsmith-Todd, this programme of exquisite short film invites huggers, hikers, hummers, and hymns to the Sydney Opera House.

Featuring NSW short film premieres by filmmakers from Thailand, Bangladesh, the Philippines, the United States, and local talent; Music takes the commanding force of sound as a viewing experience for the ears.

Filmmakers-cum-curators Garden Reflexxx say: “when oppression beams from instruments, when paintings become extraordinary action, when travel is defined by illusions of wander, and time becomes warped conjuring, films become sonic adventures that wink at light, camera, and abstraction. It’s all part of the search for essence, which is what Garden Reflexxx strives for as a studio. God can laugh at your plans, but can he make a video essay?”
