With the release of their long-awaited new album I Am The River, The River Is Me, Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Kahu rocker Jen Cloher makes their explosive return to live performance, playing the Sydney Opera House in their Vivid LIVE debut.

Cloher is a lyrical and musical force of nature – a modern day Patti Smith whose brutally honest, politically charged lyrics mark her out as one of the most interesting and important artists of her day.

The Independent

Raw, restless anthems from a feminist rock poet

It’s been six years since Jen Cloher released their acclaimed self-titled album, but at last the wait is over. With their fifth and latest record, I Am The River, The River Is Me, the Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Kahu singer-songwriter, queer feminist rocker and indie label legend makes a triumphant return, bringing their taut, tenacious brand of anthemic pop back with a newfound confidence.

A gifted songwriter of raw, fiercely political indie rock, Cloher forged their sound across a series of alternately gritty and tender records, while championing DIY musicians on their local label, Milk! Records. Drawing comparisons with Patti Smith and PJ Harvey, it garnered rave reviews (The Guardian dubbed it “a masterpiece”) and shot into the Australian top five, earning Cloher a prestigious Australian Music Prize nomination.

Buoyed by a sonically rich new album that celebrates community and their maternal Māori lineage, Cloher’s Vivid LIVE debut promises to be the kind of powerful, inclusive performance for which they’ve become known and adored.
