Useful information:

An out-of-this-world night from a Sydney club legend

Barney Kato needs no introduction to local club heads. For more than 20 years the Sydney selector has electrified dance floors across the nation, from his storied tenure at Club 77 to spinning sets at Field Day, Splendour in the Grass, Subsonic, Club Mince and Big Day Out, and supporting acts including Daft Punk, Earl Sweatshirt and Honey Dijon. This year he returns to the Sydney Opera House Studio with Alien, an exhilarating club night that’s been rewiring dancefloors with its cutting edge, future-facing sounds. The event features an atomic headline performance by the wildly adventurous UK electro guru Radioactive Man playing live, and joining Barney on the turntables for an all-vinyl breakbeat meltdown will be Mark N, influential mixmaster, underground label don, and the original purveyor of Bogan Nosebleed Gabber Techno From Newcastle. Plus, fave Sydney DJs au4r33y and Magda Bytnerowicz

Conceived under the shadow of lockout laws in 2017, Alien was Kato’s bid to bring more futuristic, forward-thinking sounds to the Sydney club landscape – reflecting his reputation for dancefloor exploration with a focus on moody electro, acid and breakbeats. The night soon expanded in genre and diversity, attracting a high-profile range of Australian and international artists including DJ Bone, Martyn, DJ Nobu, Claire Morgan, Gabber Eleganza, Moopie, Simon Caldwell, Nite Fleit, Pariah and many more.

In this space, everyone can hear you scream.

Radioactive Man
One of the most influential DJs, producers and remixers in the UK underground, Keith Tenniswood – aka Radioactive Man – came to attention as one half of electronica legends Two Lone Swordsmen, the duo he formed with acid house icon Andrew Weatherall. He is widely regarded as UK’s figurehead of Drexcyian-born electro, known for his infamous Control Tower parties, co-producing David Holmes’ “Let’s Get Killed”, working with the likes of Primal Scream and Death in Vegas, and his epic mixes from his residencies at London’s iconic fabric.

Mark N
Special guest DJ Mark N is nothing less than a hardcore legend. As one third of the seminal electronic act Nasenbluten – and a founding member of Newcastle industrial hardcore label Bloody Fist Records – he was a pioneer of the sound that came to be known as breakcore, while his breathtaking turntable skills saw him place highly at the prestigious DMC DJ Championships. An advocate – and master – of the lost art of strictly analogue spinning, Mark’s speed and dexterity on the decks are truly phenomenal.

au4r33y
Sydney selector au4r33y is an underground favourite and the founder of Prowl, the collective behind a range of events in the city’s inner west. With a genre-defying sound that ranges from obscure acid to funky electro, her sound bridges the sound of the old school and the new.

Magda Bytnerowicz
A versatile selector with a deep love for dance music, Magda Bytnerowicz has cemented her status across the last decade as one of Sydney’s most respected DJs. She has played everywhere from Sydney Mardi Gras to Berlin’s Panorama Bar and alongside icons like DJ Masda, Sedef Adasi, Ben Klock and many more. Expect classy minimal and deep house, itchyacid jams, slinky electro, rowdy breakbeats and much more.
