The September 2026 Create Space artist residency partners with Critical Path — Australia’s leading centre for choreographic research and development.
Critical Path is Australia’s leading centre for choreographic research and development, dedicated to supporting independent choreographers as they push the boundaries of their practice. Based in Sydney, Critical Path fosters innovation through a dynamic program of research opportunities that encourage artists to explore new ways of working, build networks, and engage in critical dialogue around dance.
This residency supports choreographer Nasim Patel and their work-in-progress Bumpy Horizon.

About the artist
Nasim Patel
Nasim Patel is a choreographer and writer working with diasporic identities, technologies and the Anthropocene through choreography, rap, digital work, game development, and writing. He is drawn to embodiment as a common denominator for human experience, exploring how choreography can relate disparate ideas and stories. Nasim’s work blurs the line between live and virtual, investigating how modern technology mediates communication and storytelling.
He was a primary collaborator on Chris Chua’s 2022 video-game movement performance BeatStorm, presented at Dancehouse, Melbourne, and Riverside Theatres, Paramatta by FORM Dance Projects. In 2024, Nasim participated in the Taiwan and Australia Choreography and Technology Exchange Program, organised between Critical Path and the Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab. The collaboration between Taiwanese and Australian artists led to the creation of BODY-DATA-LOOP in Taiwan, and I remember what the machine remembers what I remember, which premiered as part of Performance Space’s 2025 Liveworks festival.
