A rare 360-degree live music experience supported by Shady Nasty

Be among the first to hear tracks from his highly anticipated new album alongside beloved favourites. These small-capacity shows celebrate community, new music, and the return to live instrumentation. One thing’s for sure: it’s going to be something that you’ve never seen before.

With his freaky, funky, genre-defying fusion of hip-hop, punk, rock, folk and jazz, Ghanaian-Australian musician Genesis Owusu has become one of the nation’s most acclaimed young artists – and one of its most spectacular live performers. Now, in a new residency-style show, the multiple ARIA-award-winning singer-songwriter creates an intimate atmosphere in the Studio for his first live performance of 2025.

After breaking through with his double-A-sided 2019 single “WUTD” / “Vultures”, Owusu exploded onto the national scene with 2021’s Smiling With No Teeth, an unflinching debut that broke the mould of local hip-hop, won the prestigious Australian Music Prize, and collected the ARIA Album of the Year award. His follow-up, 2023’s Struggler, confirmed Owusu’s unparalleled talent, winning him a second ARIA Album of the Year award. On stage, Owusu has built a reputation for powerful performances, ambitious visuals and theatrical grandeur, elements he demonstrated to dazzling effect with his 2023 collaboration with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in the Concert Hall. The Studio residency marks Owusu’s first time at the Sydney Opera House since his surprise appearance with Jonti at Vivid LIVE 2024.

“I’ve been missing seeing you guys. My community! I wanna chat, I wanna play some music, I want to see how you’re all doing. Touch some grass n that. Sometimes the more people there are, the more anonymous we can become, so let’s keep it intimate for now. Small capacity, few nights in a row, residency style. Me, you and my band. Give you a first experience of this new album! We’re gonna call these little shows ‘Redstar Wu’s Neighbourhood Jams’. See ya there x” - Genesis Owusu
