Performance Workshop | Ages 3+ | Drip drop! Drip Drop! What kind of music can you make with water? What sort of sounds does ice make? This January, join sound collectors Drip and Drop, and their friends to discover incredible new sounds found from dripping ice and giant bowls of water.

Run time
This workshop runs for approximately 40 minutes.
Event duration is a guide only and may be subject to change.
Age
This workshop is recommended for children aged 3 - 12 and their families. Adults do not require a ticket, but must accompany their child at all times during the event. Up to 3 children’s tickets can be purchased per adult.
Parents are to remain with children 5 and under throughout the activity. Parents of children ages 5+ can either participate or observe but must remain in the space during the performance.

What to bring on the day
All materials are provided on the day. Children may wish to bring a change of clothes for after the performance as there is the opportunity to gently splash in bowls of water during the performance.

Create your own sound scape with water!
Drip Drop Play is a joyful and calming sensory experience that encourages children to listen, explore and play in an immersive colourful world of ice and water. Families are invited to enter of a world of sound as you follow sound collectors Drip and Drop through different dimly lit environments of ice and water. Enter each environment with its own sound exploration and opportunity for discovery through play!
Facilitated by percussionist and composer Thea Rossen and her team, come together to play, create, and explore.

Ad Lib Collective
Ad Lib Collective sepcialises in unique and transformative musical and inter-disciplinary performances for children and adults. Based in Boorloo/Perth Ad Lib is directed by percussionist and composer Thea Rossen. The Collective’s projects are influenced by classical and contemporary music and regularly feature cross genre collaboration. With residencies at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Canada and the Castlemaine Festival in Australia, Ad Lib have presented Music for Our Changing Climate at the Melbourne Recital Centre’s Metropolis Festival, The Water Concerto at the Four Winds Easter Festival and run regional and metropolitan outreach workshops for major arts institutions in WA and Victoria.
Ad Lib was the recipient of New Ideas Lab funding to develop Drip Drop Play at Art Play in 2018, and recently released Flashed Glass, a cross genre collaborative album with electronic music artists Sleep D presented by Play On Music. In 2023 Ad Lib Collective developed and presented Conditions of Growth with media artist Sohan Ariel Hayes, a multidisciplinary work that places exquisite chamber music at the centre of an immersive performance experience featuring projected generative animation and sensor driven LED lights inside flowerpots.

Venue information
Our foyers will be open 90 minutes pre-show for Concert Hall and Joan Sutherland Theatre performances, and two hours pre-show for Western Foyer venue performances. Refreshments will be available for purchase from our theatre bars.
All Sydney Opera House foyers are pram accessible, with lifts to the main and western foyers. The public lift to all foyers is accessible from the corridor near the escalators on the Lower Concourse and also in the Western Foyer via the corridor on the Ground Level (at the top of the escalators). Pram parking will be available outside the theatres in the Western Foyer.
Getting here
The Sydney Opera House Car Park, operated by Wilson Parking, is open and available to use. Wilson Parking offer discounted parking if you book ahead. Please see the Wilson Parking website for details.
Please check the Transport NSW website for the latest advice and information on travel. You can catch public transport (bus, train, ferry) to Circular Quay and enjoy a six minute walk to the Opera House.

We’re committed to making your experience safe, comfortable and enjoyable, with a number of measures in place including regular cleaning of high-touch areas, air conditioning systems that maximise ventilation, and hand sanitiser stations positioned in all paths of travel. Frequently asked questions
We advise that you arrive 15 minutes prior to the event. Ticket purchases and collection at our Box Office is discouraged and eTicket or postal delivery methods should be used, wherever possible. However, if you are collecting your tickets from the Box Office, we recommend doing this at least 60 minutes before the event starts.
Prior to the workshop, please notify us if you will need a chair for the session, so we can have those available. Please email accessibility@sydneyoperahouse.com to request a chair or notify our team of any additional needs you may have.
The authorised agency for this event is the Sydney Opera House.
Only tickets purchased by authorised agencies should be considered reliable. If you purchase tickets from a non-authorised agency such as Ticketmaster Resale, Viagogo, Ticketbis, eBay, Gumtree, Tickets Australia or any other unauthorised seller, you risk that these tickets are fake, void or have previously been cancelled. Food and beverages will not be allowed unless specified in the event. Opera Bar, Opera Kitchen and Portside are also available to purchase food before your event. Please bring a credit or debit card for any on-site purchases to enable contactless payment.
